The apparition of the Miraculous Medal - Our Lady appearing to St. Catherine Laboure in the chapel on the Rue du Bac, Paris, 1830 - rendered in a classical devotional style drawn from traditional Catholic iconography.
The composition is the traditional one: Catherine kneeling in the habit of the Daughters of Charity, Our Lady standing on the globe with rays streaming from her hands, the medal itself shown in the air between them. A narrative image, and the one that explains where the medal came from.
